"Daily case counts reflect newly reported cases and may represent cases that were tested in the preceding days, which could significantly impact the count on days when a relatively large number of laboratory reports arrive in one day." SNHD confirmed they are not counting COVID-19 antibody positives into their COVID-19 positive case counts.
Majority of information is pulled from Southern Nevada Health District's COVID-19 dashboard and historical reports.
Our positives have slowed down, our recovery rate continues to rise (90+% range), but our hospitalizations are increasing. Protect our vulnerable and continue to practice good hygiene habits, including wearing a mask to prevent asymptomatic spread as mandated by Governor Sisolak (onus is on businesses, which we want to keep open, but Metro will not enforce it; OSHA is responsible for mask enforcement by fining the business). To report a non-compliant business through the state, call (702) 486-9020 or (775) 688-3700.
Doctors are doing convalescent plasma therapy treatments and are seeking plasma donors to help those in need. One plasma donation can help five patients. Blood donors can get the antibodies testing done for free.
FDA states 144 trials of therapeutics are underway to treat COVID-19. 457 more are in planning stages. None have been approved. Remdesivir and Dexamethaaone are FDA approved for emergency base use.
Nevada was approved for the 24-hour test procedure. FDA has approved a 30-minute and a 5-minute testing procedures. UNLV provides the main COVID-19 testing services. The first at-home testing kit was FDA approved on 5/15.
If you live within a 1-mile range of the Wal-Mart on Craig Rd, you qualify for a drone-delivered test kit to your front or back door.
Testing sites require an appointment; some may need to be scheduled by your primary care physician or another authorized provider.
City Serve coordinates testing sites throughout the valley. Testing is only on Saturdays. Schedule a no-cost test here: https://cityservelv.org/
The antibodies test was approved by the FDA a month ago. UMC, E7 Health and local laboratories are able to conduct antibodies testing. Cost is normally $149+, but your insurance may reimburse you for the test. Check your coverage first. Vitalant/Universal Blood Services will do a free antibody test for any eligible donors.
UMC is able to process 4,000 tests per day. It is encouraged for anyone to be tested. Symptoms are no longer required. Appointment is required.
UMC's testing sites are inside Thomas & Mack Center and Cashman Field Center. They can do 1,200 tests per day, Tues-Sat 8am to 4pm. No symptoms, insurance, or citizenship required for testing. Must schedule an appointment online through UMC's website (www.umcsn.com). A staff member will contact you back to schedule your appointment. According to their reps, there is no limit how often you can get tested. Sites are walk-in, appointment or walk-up. Both sites now use the self-nasal swab test kits.
UMC updates COVID-19 test guidelines:
New guidelines are to save test kits for those exhibiting symptoms.
Expanded drive-thru testing:
See all testing locations on the SNHD website.
All CVS pharmacy drive-thru locations also do testing, no cost should be associated with this test. Validate with your insurance. If no insurance, there should be no charge.
Four months ago, the first vaccine was tested. More than 160 vaccine prototypes are being tested. Clinical trials of the vaccine were administered three months ago. Phase 1 & 2 of trial vaccines have completed with positive antibody results. Phase 3 clinical trials started with 30k volunteers; large test size of 3k vaccine test trials in the UK. Africa started their vaccine trials two months ago. Multiple sources stating to expect an FDA approved vaccine by end of the year.
Of the 100+ vaccines submitted, 22 have made the cut to go through testing and final FDA approval phases (5/15 briefing). The front runner vaccine is conducting human trails (Phase 3 aka final stage), completion date in September. AstraZeneca is prepared to produce 2 billion doses once the vaccine is FDA approved.
Government is working with four vaccine manufacturers who are in the final phases of vaccine trials, all prepared for massive vaccine output once FDA approval is given (7/31). Two of the four have in the final review phases with FDA (8/14).
Phase 3 vaccine trials for Vegas has started. Volunteers can call 702-893-8968. Must be 18+. Administered by the Wake Clinical Research Center of Nevada. Source.

2020.09.25 03:43 BlueSkiesWideSmiles "Hope sprung eternal in a garden where you kept planting weeds." : Why I went No Contact when my only living parent.

My parents got off to a really bad start, Mom was pregnant with me at 15 when my Dad was 19 so there is already a lot of fucked up right out of the gate. Moms family was dirt ass poor, Her sister and her spent most of their childhood in orphanage after my Grandmother lost custody (for very justified reasons). Apparently they all hung out nearby the local army base as possible way to get out, and well, it worked. All of them got pregnant AND THEN married someone enlisted. Every single one of these marriages ended in divorce. But I mean, of course they did? Sometimes I wonder if they were prostitutes, Dad always made odd jokes about it. Which would be tragic but also explain a lot. But that is neither here nor there.
My parents lasted a long time together comparatively. When I was 8ish Mom introduced me to her friend Tom, but I had to promise never to tell Dad about him. After that, it was pretty common for Mom to take me to his house and I would watch TV while trying not to hear them having sex in the other room. He also owned his own business, a VHS rental place with a huge porn section. Every couple of days until I was 11ish we would go to his store so she could "use the tanning bed in the back" and I would literally wander around an empty store with all the lights out until 1 in the morning when we would go home. Trying to not think about the fact that she was having sex. I particularly remember a Christmas Eve where we skipped the tradition of opening 1 present before going to bed, she had me open one in the car on the way home but it was a shirt meant for Tom.
Up until this point I was mostly scared of my Dad, but that was more because I never saw him. Dad worked 2 jobs and went to school. I only knew him as the guy who would sleep a lot and be grouchy when I was too loud. But when they eventually decided to divorce I became significantly closer to him. He took active interest in everything I did, we went to numerous Pokemon events, played video games together, took me and my friends to concerts, went to political rallies, talked about books and helped me build my first computer.
I dreaded the time I spent at my Mothers house, technically they had 50/50 custody but I would take any excuse not to go to hers. It was only ever me fighting with Tom, Mom yelling at for not being confident enough to get a girlfriend and of course.... trying not to listen to them having sex.
Dad never stopped loving Mom, and she used him. I don't believe there was ever a child support order but every time he would drop me off at hers he would give me an envelope filled with cash for her. When I was older he told me he paid rent for both his apartment and the old one he moved out of that now my Mom and Tom shared. That only ended when Tom got a "free house" in a city 2 hours away. His sister was an early investor in Amazon and became very wealthy quickly. My dad quit his job and got a nearby apartment in the new town, he knew I hated them but said having my Mom in my life would be better in the long run. But I knew it was him still pining for her. She flirted with him shamelessly, I once found a note in my Dads wallet in my moms handwriting saying she would leave Tom and re-marry my dad on such and such date. When my Mom went back to school it was super common for my dad to meet for secret lunches, the irony was not loss on me when she said "Don't tell Tom". Dad did a TON of her homework for her. He would constantly buy her fancy clothes and make car payments on her behalf, but when she around Tom laugh and laugh at what a fucking loser Dad was.
Dad never really had another relationship, but would talk about how perfect Mom was all the time. I hated it and always told him what she said behind his back but he would only shrug and say he was the one who messed everything up so it was fine. During this time it was super common to deal with repo men. Mom/Tom never really kept jobs but always had fancy trendy cars. Yellow Volkswagen Bug/PT Cruiser etc. They would last about 2-3 months, repo guys would come and take them away, next week we would go to the lot and lease something fancy. Rinse repeat. Once Tom got in the car before it was fully hooked up to the tow truck and kept the wheels spinning for like an hour so they couldn't take it away. He eventually ran out of gas. I was a skinny 15 year old nerd but he kept yelling at me to fight the tow truck driver. I walked to my Dads instead.
Mom/Tom stayed in that house for ~5ish years rent free, when she finally decided to sell it Tom poured gasoline over the yard, broke all the windows, disconnected all the fixtures and went NC with her. Tom moved in with his parents, my Mom guilted me HARD to move out of state with her, I had just turned 18 and had a serious GF who I didn't want to leave but.... "
*But who will take care of the cats?"
So I ended up helping her move out of state in to her sisters house and spent a miserable month doing long distance relationship with my GF. Dad knew it awful and bought me a ticket back home, I moved in with my GF and life was good for a few years. Eventually we broke up, but it was amicable and we are still friends. (I babysit her awesome little kid every now and then) Yet Mom would hold us breaking up as proof I had made a huge life mistake and I should have stayed with her. I flew down once for her Las Vegas wedding to Tom but was miserable the entire time, fought constantly and eventually left for the airport 12 hours early to get away. I have nothing in common with these people and I abhor their hateful homophobic and racist "values". That was pretty close to the last time I saw my Mom. Whole thing was a big mistake.
5ish years later, one of my aunts talked/guilted me in to flying down to surprise her for her birthday. I accepted and we fought the entire time about how I "abandoned" her. I told her I didn't owe her emotions anything she spent my life ignoring mine. And that she was the one who left the state, I shouldn't have to give up my life to have the one she wanted for me instead. Shouldn't have gone, another big mistake. At that point I went VLC and greyrocked anything real. She would mail presents for my birthday but I never responded and donated everything to goodwill.
Fast forward another 5 yeas, I have a new FANTASTIC GIRLFRIEND who I love dearly and live out of state with, life was better than great. Talking to my Mom for 5 minutes every 2-3 months was manageable and talking talking with Dad every couple of days about politics and movies was great. Great relationship across the board. Miss him a bunch.
He died a year ago.
Dad had a lot of health problems so it wasn't the biggest surprise when he died, but no one ever really sees the big heart attack coming so it was still a shocking phone call. In my grief I called Mom again, I guess partly because I felt she should know and partly because in my confusion on how to act or feel. She told me to drop everything and go back to his house with Gma, and that waiting 3 hours for my GF to get off work to come with was a waste of time.

Terrible fucking advice that I stupidly followed.

I spent a couple days with the funeral directors setting everything up, Grandma insisted on a service being held even though she refused to go, which is her right but I didn't want to go either nor did we have any other family that was in a position to attend so I am still confused on why it happened. When Mom found out about the service she said she would fly up that evening. I told her I wasn't ready for that and she is welcome to come up but I don't want to see or deal with her. I was too busy processing my own grief to deal with a reunion with her but I understood how she would still want to say goodbye. She laughed, hung up, talked to her pastor who told her I was wrong and then texted me the time when her plane was going to land. I told her to get an Uber, AirBnB and the time I was going to leave the service. She called again to say I was a piece of shit then canceled the ticket.
Ultimately I went to the service by myself. Which, was rough. Missed my GF the entire time, she was my rock. Still is. Gma wasn't much help. Shitfaced drunk the entire time. Her neighbors were drunk with her and they passed out on both the couches every night. Gma told me to sleep in Dads old bed literally on the day he died. I slept on the floor for 3 nights in a row instead.
I guess I can't be too upset with her, she was dealing with the loss of her son and her own grief. But every 5 minutes she was bringing me Dads old clothes to try on. Even crazy shit like his used dirty underwear. She really made those days extra painful. I made like 8 trips to goodwill getting rid of his stuff and cleaning his room while her and her neighbors mused about helping but never did. I still feel bitter and resentful about her so out relationship now is LC (basically just me calling at the start of COVID to make sure she is taking it serious) Anyways, the service by myself was fine. None of his coworkers showed so it was literally just me. Mom called the minute she knew the service was over yelling at me how I denied her the chance to see him. I quoted my text to her that she could come, I just did not want to see her. She called me selfish, hung up again and started texting me all the bad things Dad have ever done, which apparently was him cheating on her before they were divorced (but after she was already cheating on him with Tom so I don't know what her point was)
The title of this post is how I ended my last text to her. I told her I was tired of her saying she cared about what I want then immediately lecture me on why it was wrong. That's been her MO for everyone and everything, listen intently, smile, agree, then do whatever the fuck she wants. (One of our last conversations was how she was fighting with Tom about adopting more animals, she promised not to and did it anyways a few days later)
I've changed numbers, changed addresses, changed emails, changed my name, deleted all social media and moved on. But when I miss Dad (which is a lot), it's hard not to think of her as well. But even in those moments, I have no desire to hear a single damn word from her. That part of my life is over. And I am better for it.
I'm open to criticism here. Sometimes I feel like I should have bit my tongue one final time so she could seen Dad at the service but I know that I gave her that opportunity, just not on the terms she wanted. This is the fist time I have ever really talked about it. I feel good about life in general, even though 2020 is a dumpster fire the year without her has been great. I'm 100% I have made the right choice and my life is better without her in it. But I am open to basically any input here, even people who disagree with my actions.
I made a throwaway just for this to be extra-super-duper-careful, but maybe she will find it. If so, Mom, know that I regret not telling you in that final text that it would be the last one ever. I knew it then. There is nothing left for us to talk about.
Oh and stop trying to contact me through my friends. They know better.

2020.09.25 01:09 theacenoodles Open Container Law verification

Pre-COVID I read some article about being able to carry liquor around similar to Las Vegas. I read some dated material that it could not be provided by a bar. However, you can purchase at a gas station or grocery store and proceed to open and drink once outside. The other thing is the container needs to be sealable such as a mason jar.

2020.09.24 18:47 nfulks1996 Sterling Marlin and the High's and Low's of a NASCAR Career

Sterling Marlin was the quintessential "good-ole boy" type of NASCAR driver.
Hard-headed and hard-driving on the track, but a funny and friendly guy off the track who was usually the life of whichever party he found himself at.
While the stories of his off-track antics are somewhat hard to find, Kyle Petty summed it up best after his 1996 Brickyard 400 when he said "I thought I was dead so I was hoping I was going to Heaven, until I heard Sterling talking, which I knew wasn't good because if Sterling was dead too and if we were in the same place, that wasn't good because Sterling wasn't exactly on the fast track to Heaven."
Marlin's fun and laid back demeanor made him a driver that large companies saw as worth sponsoring, but also a driver that fans could easily approach.
While Marlin was one of the personalities off the track that made NASCAR popular, on-track success took a little while to come to Marlin.
Marlin made his first start all the way back in 1976 at Nashville where he finished 29th. Marlin made a handful of starts here and there until 1983 when he ran his first full season driving for Roger Hamby, where he finished a respectable 19th in points.
Marlin was also a part of the infamous LD Wright saga at Talladega in 1982, where Marlin sold his car to the now mystery man who hasn't been seen or heard from in nearly 40 years.
Marlin would spend the next three years on a part-time schedule, but would score his first second place finish at the 1986 Firecracker 400 while driving Hoss Ellington's #1 Chevrolet.
Marlin's serious big break in top level equipment would come in 1987 when he would take the vacant #44 Piedmont Airlines Oldsmobile for Billy Hagan.
Over the next four years Marlin would be a consistent driver, never finishing higher than 10th in points, nor lower than 14th, and scored his second, second place finish.
For 1991 Marlin would depart Hagan's team in a similar vain to Terry Labonte, and sign with Junior Johnson for 1991.
Only Marlin was driving Junior's second car, that had been turned down by Alan Kulwicki, the #22 Maxwell House Ford Thunderbird.
And in Marlin's first race with the team he was running in the front group in the 1991 Daytona 500, before Dale Earnhardt, Davey Allison, and Kyle Petty tangled catapulting Marlin to second, where he would finish after pressuring Ernie Irvan to run out of fuel during the final laps that were ran under caution.
1991 would be Marlin's best season to date, as he would snag two second place finishes, seven top-5's, and 16 top-10's, placing Marlin seventh in the final standings, and also out-pacing teammate Geoff Bodine in points, despite Bodine scoring a win.
Marlin returned to Junior Johnson in 1992, where he would record three second place finishes, but would slide down in points to 10th.
For 1993 Marlin departed Junior Johnson to drive for the Stavola Brothers, where in a forgettable season Marlin took another second place finish, once again happening at Daytona.
Entering the 1994 season Marlin had been competing in NASCAR's highest level for 18 years, and had finished second nine times. Sterling was a good driver, who had to compete with great drivers.
But 1994 was set to give Marlin another shot at getting that first win, and in top equipment no less. Marlin was Ernie Irvan's replacement in the Morgan-McClure Kodak #4, and maybe Marlin could finally earn that first win.
Marlin ran second behind Irvan for much of the 1994 Daytona 500, but when Irvan lost it in turn four with 20 laps to go, Marlin scooted under Irvan, and did it. Sterling Marlin finally did it.
Sterling Marlin had won a race in NASCAR's highest level, and not just any race. Marlin had won the Daytona 500, capping off one of the more miserable Speedweeks with a triumphant first victory.
While the rest of 1994 failed to yield similar results, Marlin returned in 1995 with easily the best car in the field for the 1995 Daytona 500, where Marlin would win again, leading a race high 105 laps, and holding off Dale Earnhardt for the win.
1995 could be argued as the best season of Marlin's career as Sterling won two more times, at Darlington and Talladega, and also finished third in points.
Marlin would add two more wins in 1996, but slide down in points to eighth after a subpar second half of the season, and after a disappointing 1997 season, Marlin departed Morgan-McClure to drive for Felix Sabates in the #40 Coors Chevrolet.
1998-2000 would be forgetable, but consistent seasons for Marlin as he never finished inside the top-10 in points, but never finishing lower than 19th.
2001 however, appeared as if Marlin would return to being one of the big-dogs of NASCAR.
During 2000 then CART series championship owner Chip Ganassi bought into Sabco, and with Dodge's impending return Ganassi and Marlin, along with rookie teammate Jason Leffler, joined the early dodge brigade.
For the 2001 season Marlin also began sporting the Coors Light colors, and the iconic Silver Bullet was born.
Marlin was strong at the Daytona 500 and during the latter stages had a car that could have competed for the win, but Marlin was separated from leaders Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr., by the Black #3.
We all know what happened next, but not many people have talked about it from Marlin's perspective. A driver in one of his best opportunities of his career, racing hard for the win, makes an innocuous looking tap into a bumper that results in the death of the greatest driver NASCAR will ever see.
Not many drivers could have handled the situation as well as Marlin did.
Marlin rebounded from the situation by having his best season since 1996, and ending his five year winless drought by winning a rain shortened race at Michigan, giving Dodge their first win in their return season. Marlin won again at Charlotte, which propelled him to his second third place points finish, after recording two wins, 12 top-5's, and 20 top-10's.
Marlin once again looked as if he was going to win the Daytona 500, until a late race incident with Jeff Gordon damaged Marlin's right front fender. Marlin edged Ward Burton for the race back to the line, and more than like would've won the race as Marlin undoubtedly had the best car, and also Burton had little help from behind as the majority of cars left were Fords, and Ford ran a historically bad engine in the Daytona 500 in 2002, meaning Marlin and Burton's Mopar power would've propelled them far beyond the grips of Elliott Sadler and Geoff Bodine.
Marlin, for some reason, decided to hop out of his car, and attempt to repair his car himself, on the back-straightway, under a red flag.
I have never seen a NASCAR official react as quick as the one who spotted Marlin working on his fender did, and Marlin was penalized, going from a sure win, to eighth.
But, Marlin carried his momentum over from 2001 and stood in Victory Lane twice in the first five races, winning at Las Vegas and Darlington. Marlin also carried a commanding points lead for much of the first 3/4's of 2002, usually in triple digits.
That was until a hard crash at Richmond injured some ribs, before Marlin's season came to an end after Kansas where he cracked some vertebrae in his neck.
While Jamie McMurray lifted the spirits of the team with his upset win at Charlotte a few weeks later, Marlin's best chance at a championship was dashed with that shot into the Kansas concrete.
Marlin returned in 2003 but never really factored in to any wins and was well outside the top-10 in points, and continued his slide in 2004 and 2005.
After 2005 Marlin departed Ganassi to race for MB2 Motorsports, driving the #14 that his recently passed away father Coo Coo drove for so many years.
After MB2 was bought out by Bobby Ginn, Marlin's career could be considered a causality of Ginn's swift rise and fall in the NASCAR world, but Marlin's days were sadly already numbered.
Marlin made a handful of starts for Ganassi and James Finch throughout 2008 and 2009 after the dust settled from Ginn's dismantling of the former MB2 Motorsports, before Marlin called it a career in NASCAR.
Just over two years removed from announcing his retirement, Sterling Marlin announced he was suffering from Parkinson's, however Marlin hasn't let this disease impact his racing as Marlin, at the age of 63 with Marlin gearing up for a return to the Nashville Fairgrounds earlier this year after recovering from a broken foot.
There's lessons in the career and life of Sterling Marlin that we can all use that can help us in daily life away from a racetrack. Never quitting even in the face of years of little success, accepting responsibility for accidents, learning to move on from major setbacks, even now while battling a horrible disease, to keep living your life and doing what you love, and doing it all with a grin on your face.
While Marlin may not be a Hall of Famer for his career resume, Sterling Marlin is a race that I believe everyone enjoyed watching for more than 30 years.

  • Akira Maeda announced that he’s restarting the Universal Wrestling Federation (the Japan version, not the one Bill Watts had) and they’re running their first show at Korauken Hall on May 12. Nobuhiko Takada and Kazuo Yamazaki, along with Yoji Anjo, Tetsuo Nakano, and Shigeo Miyato are also going with Maeda. All of them are members of the original organization, which closed in September 1985. The official announcement was set for April 8, but the story broke early. Expect matches to be in the style of the original UWF, focusing on a hard martial arts style of kicks and holds with next to no showmanship. UWF lasted 17 months in its original incarnation and gathered a cult following in Tokyo, but it couldn’t draw on the road because they had no tv and the style was fairly impenetrable to all but the hardest core fans. Like, I love Shayna Baszler, but I also don’t want an entire promotion of Shayna Baszlers, and that’s UWF. Anyway, they’re not going to do tours like the other big promotions in Japan, but rather do a big show each month in the big cities only. Their next planned show in Tokyo after the return isn’t until August, and they won’t hit Osaka until December. Back in November Maeda shot on Riki Choshu, breaking two bones under his eye and getting Maeda suspended, before ultimately getting fired on March 1 after he wouldn’t come to terms on a new contract. Dave expects UWF 2.0 to have a hard time making it with only one show a month and videotape as their only revenue streams (yeah, tapes are too expensive for the PWG model to work).
  • And tying into all this, Takada and Yamazaki’s last match in New Japan saw another shoot incident. On March 19 in Korauken Hall, they wrestled Kuniaki Kobayashi and Norio Honaga, and Kobayashi slapped Yamazaki hard at the opening bell. Since he apparently was already going to quit, Yamazaki then shot on Kobayashi, kicking him in the face and they then brawled until several wrestlers broke them up. Later on he tried again when Kobayashi had Takada in an abdominal stretch.
Watch: Takada and Yamazaki vs. Honaga and Kobayashi
  • Outside that news, the world of wrestling is quiet in the post-Wrestlemania season. WWF will have tv tapings on April 21 in New Haven and April 22 in Springfield, Massachusetts, as well as a Saturday Night’s Main Event taping that week and a Madison Square Garden show on the 25th. The line-up for the New Haven taping has DiBiase vs. Beefcake, Savage defending against Andre, Honkytonk vs. Bigelow (may not happen, since Bigelow underwent double knee surgery last week), and Strike Force vs. Demolition. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of rating they pull for an entire show without Hogan.
  • WWF released information on their internal projections for Wrestlemania IV, and in hindsight they’re laughable. They anticipated a gross of $40 million when adding the gate, ppv, closed circuit, and projected videotape sales. As for their reports on what they did take: they’re claiming $1.5 million for the live gate (probably accurate, if you include the site fee Donald Trump paid), $20 million on ppv (they’re claiming a 9.8 buyrate), and $4 million incoming from the 100,000 video tapes they project selling. (Dave’s been told that’s never going to happen). Even adding up those figures, you fall ludicrously short of their projected $40 million, and yet publications are running with the numbers and even the $40 million number and not even bothering to add things up. And that really gives proof to the fact that it does not matter what the actual numbers are for WWF - they are entirely built up on image, and the whole wrestling business is too, for that matter. WWF needs to claim Wrestlemania IV was a bigger success than Wrestlemania III for three key reasons: 1. Advertisers and the media have predicted the end of the “wrestling fad” since the beginning and anything that would make them think it actually is dropping off will make sponsors drop WWF real quick, 2. WWF can’t allow an image of failure (and let’s be clear, Wrestlemania IV wasn’t a failure, it just wasn’t as successful as projected), and 3. It keeps people from looking into why it wasn’t as successful as projected. Now, the reasons there are that the tournament as an idea wasn’t as strong as they thought it would be and that weakens the image of Vince as a genius, but he can’t be blamed here because it looked like a good idea until the ticket sales numbers started coming in. And if someone got the idea that Crockett’s show hurt them, well that makes them competition, and WWF’s official company line is that there is no competition to them. So if you’re WWF, you have to project strength on all fronts and positive momentum no matter what, and in a way that’s what keeps them running - the momentum of their own image of success is more powerful than the reality of their actual numbers. And since to the wider world Wrestlemania was not a failure and Crockett doesn’t even exist, that might just be the biggest hurdle they have to overcome and should be Crockett’s number one goal. And indeed, WWF/WWE has always managed to keep a stranglehold on the public image of wrestling in the United States, even in the Monday Night Wars to an extent, as evidenced by the many times WCW’s contributions would be ignored or even labeled as WWF stuff.
  • Syndicated ratings for the week ending March 20 had WWF at number 3 with an 11.2 All-Star Wrestling network (AWA, Memphis, Pro Wrestling this Week, POWW, GLOW) got an 8.6 and 6th place, while Crockett had a 7.8 for 7th place.
  • The third Crockett Cup takes place on April 22 and 23 in Greenville, SC and Greensboro, NC, and it’s the least hyped yet. The Crocketts are projecting a sellout and $307,000 at the gate, and advance sales have been good, but Dave gets the feeling it might be too soon to run a big show after a big show, since it’s hard to get a crowd up in interest again so soon after a big peak point for interest. And then there’s the build, which has been awful. Flair vs. Koloff, the main event for the second night, won’t even be announced until April 16, like it’s a throwaway. Midnight Rider vs. JJ Dillon in a bullrope match probably won’t be announced until then too, and not even all the teams for the Cup have been announced yet, let alone the bracket. Dave knows about 14 teams, some of which haven’t been announced officially, and they have every name guy there is in the company, which means ten teams of jobbers. And that’s going to make the Greenville taping suck. Much better to limit things to 16 teams, but that’s not the Crockett way.
  • Gordon Solie leaving Global may be the biggest burial Dave’s ever seen. Bob Roop, the face commentator, talked about Solie as a once-great announcer and former legend who has absolutely lost it, while Red Roberts played heel and “portrayed Solie as someone who never [was] what he appeared to be” and said he was a “very ordinary man who was a different person when the camera was off.” They referenced little off-camera remarks Solie would make denigrating fans and brought up all the jobs he’s lost in the past few years (TBS, Pro Wrestling This Week, Championship Wrestling from Florida, which really isn’t a lot in wrestling, but whatever). Obviously, lots of hard feelings about Solie quitting Global to go work with Steve Keirn and Jerry Jarrett in their proposed Florida promotion.
  • Central States is now working with World Class to get big names for their big shows, and the first outing of this joint venture was a total disaster. It mostly comes down to the World Class guys not being able to get enough work in Texas. Anyway, they had Mike George defend the “World” title against Chris Adams, and George accidentally hit Adams really hard in the face with a dropkick. He broke Adams’ cheekbone and nose, and knocked out several teeth as well. No word on how long Adams will be out of action, but he’s going to have to have reconstructive surgery. Considering he just came back from a broken hand (which didn’t heal correctly in the first place), he may have the doctors re-break it to let it heal correctly.
  • Stampede had a near sellout in Calgary on April 1. The main event had Owen Hart and Jason the Terrible vs. Johnny Smith and Makhan Singh in a street fight (Owen and Jason won by DQ, so I guess those are possible in Calgary street fights). Everybody bled and Kerry Brown and Rip Rogers ran in to attack Owen and Jason, which caused the disqualification. At one point Smith hit Jason with a 45 gallon drum. For April 8 they announced an eight-man street fight, but due to the mayhem the Calgary Boxing and Wrestling Commission is refusing to authorize a street fight, so it’s going to be a regular eight-man tag match.
  • May 9 in Memphis is going to be Jerry Lawler night. They’ll have Curt Hennig defending the AWA World Title against Lawler, and if Lawler loses he’ll retire from wrestling. Their April4 stretcher match drew 6,500 on the strength of $1 student tickets. Lawler was going to win, until Scotty the Body (the future Raven) interfered ineffectively, and Eddie Gilbert came out after and used chloroform to knock Lawler out and put him on the stretcher. A riot almost broke out. On April 9 Scotty and Lawler had a grudge match where Scotty would get a date with Missy Hyatt if he won. He lost, bad, and Missy slapped him, and he’s back as a babyface since Lawler saved him from a beat down afterwards.
  • Dave hears that AWA is trying to get out of being a wrestling promotion and operate more as a booking office. The idea is to showcase as many wrestlers as they can on the Las Vegas tapes, use ESPN to sell shows for local promoters, and farm their talent out. We’ll see how that goes.
  • AWA is bringing some dude named Diamond Dallas Page in to manage Diamond and Tanaka. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson are apparently also being booked out of the AWA now, which should end rumors of them going to the WWF.
  • Bob Orton signed a three year contract with New Japan.
  • Fabulous Lance still hasn’t arrived in World Class.
  • Correction on the description of the King Parsons title win in World Class. Black Bart and Buddy Roberts weren’t shining flashlights in fans’ faces when the lights went out.
  • New Japan had no tv for the past three weeks but returns on April 16 in a 4 pm to 5 pm Saturday timeslot. It’s going to get pre-empted regularly for the rest of the year due to TV Asahi having other sports they have higher on their priority list.
  • The departures from New Japan in the wake of the UWF announcement have them hurting pretty bad for roster depth.
  • Bob Orton’s getting over well in the small towns with his Billy Gasper the pirate gimmick. He’s doing lots of clowning around and that works in the small towns. It’s going poorly with the Tokyo fans, though.
  • Masa Saito did an interview on March 18 saying the guys in the pirate masks aren’t real pirates and he’ll bring real pirates to New Japan. Orton then did an interview and said they were real pirates, and said a third Gasper brother named Barry coming to Japan.
  • Two more All Japan Women retirements have been announced. Kazue Nagahori (age 19) and Condor Saito (age 20) announced their impending retirements on April 2. That brings us to 7 women leaving the promotion since December (including Dump Matsumoto, Yukari Omori, and Devil Masami). Losing Dump has done a huge number on their ratings - Dump’s retirement show drew a 13.2 (compared to an average range from 8.5-11.5), but their first show without her drew a 5.7.
  • The Jumping Bomb Angels returned to AJW and were billed as WWF Tag Team champions. They’re defending the titles over there right now. We’re a couple months from Moolah getting the titles and division killed off.
  • All Japan is building toward an April 15 match between Genichiro Tenryu and Bruiser Brody to unify the singles titles. Tenryu has the United National and PWF Titles and Brody has the International Title. This doesn’t go anywhere. This issue’s street date is one year to the day before the Triple Crown Championship is established.
  • Tom Magee is wrestling preliminary matches in All Japan, and Dave gives an overview of his career thus far. He debuted in October 1985 and everyone thought he’d be a future superstar. Built like Lex Luger, strong as an ox (he’s a three time winner of World’s Strongest Man competitions), 6’5” and north of 270 lbs, and experienced in gymnastics and karate so agile as all hell. On paper, he’s kind of like Lesnar: just a freak specimen of an athlete. Only, unlike Lesnar he couldn’t transition that into learning to wrestle even a lick. He started out in Stampede and his very first match was his best because he just kept getting worse. He had a terrible match in Japan against Riki Choshu where a spark of potential might have shone for a millisecond. WWF signed him and debuted him in a match against Bret Hart, and Hart made him look incredible and Vince was convinced he had the guy to replace Hogan., only to find out later that the match was all Bret and nobody else knew what to do to make him look good. They had him on the C string house show tours with no improvement in sight, and he left to go do strength stuff in Europe. Unlike Ultimate Warrior, whose build is similar and wrestling ability is even more negligible, Magee had no charisma or personality to save him. So 2.5 years after supposedly being the next Hogan, he’s still no better than he was on his first match and has no discernible future in the wrestling business. The match is on the WWE Network on the special Holy Grail: The Search for WWE’s Most Infamous Lost Match.
Watch: Tom Magee vs. Riki Choshu
Watch Tom Magee reminisces about his match with Bret Hart
  • Vince McMahon is trying to get lobbyist support to abolish the Washington State Athletic Commission.
  • April 2 in San Juan Puerto Rico drew 10,000 for WWC with Hercules Ayala beating Carlos Colón to retain the Universal Title by disqualification. On the same card, Invader #1 (fuck Invader #1) regained the TV title from Super Black Ninja (Keiji Muto).
  • Madusa Miceli is doing a test shoot for Playboy. Playboy’s wanted to do a spread with a pro wrestling personality, but several women have turned them down and Dave won’t name names, but you can probably guess accurately anyway if you know the major women in the business right now. I can’t decide if the extremely minimal coverage Dave gives American women’s wrestling at this point is an advantage in guessing (if you go by Dave’s coverage, Candi Divine, Sherri Martel, Medusa, Rockin’ Robin, The Glamour Girls, the Jumping Bomb Angels, Precious, Missy Hyatt, Misty Blue, Baby Doll, and Elizabeth are basically the only women in the United States), or if it’s an indictment of his coverage of women’s wrestling. Anyway, Medusa does the shoot, but doesn’t authorize release because she gets an offer to do a tour with AJW, and with the strict code of conduct in Japan for performers, she made the smart move for her career here.
  • Northeast Championship Wrestling is trying to get Iron Sheik and Sergeant Slaughter together for a match. The big wrench in the works there is Vince McMahon. If Sheik can clean up his act, he’s likely to get re-signed by Vince because McMahon still sees some cartoon villain value in him on the lower card.
  • Everything in Global is still revolving around the Dr. Red Roberts and V.C. Minh vs. Col. Kirchner and G.I. Joe Palardy feud. But worry not, they’ve got a guy named Steve Collins who’s turning heel because he’s got two valets called the party girls, and one (Dominique) is a heel. The other is apparently the hottest valet in the business right now, and I cannot believe that sentence is basically verbatim.
  • We get a letter from a graduate student in the radio-tv department at Auburn University (nowadays he’s a professor at Union University) who wants to offer his professional take on Clash and Wrestlemania. He says Clash definitely wins for best show and Sting/Flair wins best match, then runs down positives and negatives for each. For Wrestlemania, the camera setup, lighting, roster, Ventura, and quality finals are all big pluses for the show, and the venue had the requisite glitz and Bob Uecker fit in well with the zany cast of characters as well. For Clash, the big pluses were solid feuds, minimal Dusty, better lighting than their previous shows, good use of interview segments, Bob Caudle, three really excellent main event level matches, limited ad breaks, Jim Ross emerging as the best commentator in the company, better wrestlers, and a really hot crowd from start to finish. Negatives for Wrestlemania include Gorilla Monsoon’s cliches, the unwieldy tournament, too long a card, a weak main event compared to the match they had on Saturday Night’s Main Event (it seemed rushed for time), and the non-tournament matches were largely garbage, leading the whole show to feel unfocused, confused, and unprepared compared to Wrestlemania 3. Clash had some minuses as well though: too many crowd reaction shots, timing miscues on shots going wide, why were Jason Hervey and Ken Osmond at the judges’ table, the cop-out finish to the main event (they could have saved it with Osmond playing his character to break a 2-2 tie for Flair), maybe a bit more context on a couple things like Dusty/Tully/Magnum would have helped out, and they could have really used a video package for FlaiSting to set the stage for new viewers. He rates both shows out of five on several fronts. For overall production, Wrestlemania wins 4.5 to 4 over Clash. For match quality, Clash gets 4.5 to Wrestlemania’s 2. For crowd enthusiasm, Clash wins 5 to Wrestlemania’ 1.5. Clash gets 4 (for Jim Ross) and Wrestlemania gets 3 (for Ventura) on announcing. For overall excellence, Clash wins 5 to Wrestlemania’s 2, leading to overall totals of Wrestlemania 12.5/25 to Clash’s 22.5/25.
  • The rest of the letters are more thoughts on Wrestlemania and Clash. You can guess fairly accurately that the vast majority agree Clash was better. One ridiculously long letter takes a contrarian view and tries to argue that Flair looked like a sad, tired old man and the match gave him all the Sting he’ll ever need to see for the rest of his life.
  • In Global, there’s a team called Death Row and they beat up a plant in the audience. Dave thinks this is the stupidest angle ever, because why would fans buy tickets if they think it puts them in danger of getting beat up by the wrestlers for no reason?
  • Also Global, Rusty Brooks and Jumbo Barretta won the tag titles in a match where they were on opposite teams. Brooks was teamed with Tom Nash and Barretta with Matt Oddo, and somehow Brooks and Nash won when Barretta wouldn’t get in the ring to fight Brooks, but somehow Brooks and Barretta wound up becoming champions out of it. Nobody understands what happened.
  • Joe Pedicino is running a 20 hour wrestling telethon on May 28 to benefit the Atlanta Police Department. It won’t be just wrestling - there will be some movies and sports interspersed in. So I guess it’s not exactly a 20 hour wrestling telethon, now, is it, Dave?
  • So that Hogan movie? Not a biopic. It’s going to star Hogan and the story will be built around a toughman contest. Dave notes that every movie with that concept has bombed. Well, Dave’s wrong about this being a toughman movie, but he’s right about it bombing. We’re at least somewhat conceptually closer to No Holds Barred, at least.
  • Roddy Piper signed a three movie deal with John Carpenter for several million dollars. Good for Piper, but he needs to hope his movies continue to do well - one flop and Hollywood is likely to move on from him and the other movies will likely be forgotten.
  • WWF has done some spring cleaning. S.D. Jones, Iron Mike Sharpe, Sika, Outback Jack, Hillbilly Jim, Johnny V, and Terry Gibbs are all gone. Craig De George, an announcer, is also gone.
  • Vince McMahon is privately blaming himself for Wrestlemania not being as successful as expected. Particularly, he’s beating himself up for letting the creative slide. Is this where the beginning of the creative slide that gets us to the New Generation doldrums began? I don’t know, so I guess we might see.
  • NWA Main Event is the new big show, so obviously the best way to build it up is to have it pre-empted four weeks in a row right after it debuts. Yep. Atlanta Braves baseball has kicked NWA Main Event from its timeslot for the next few weeks and it wound up on at 11 am Saturday, so nobody saw it. There were apparently some good matches this week, and Dave promises to talk about the show and some of its production snafus next week.
  • Last week Dave incorrectly reported that Brad Armstrong had knee surgery. He didn’t. He just took off the week to rest up, but his knee is messed up and he probably should get surgery.
  • [NWA] Midnight Rider (Dave calls him Midlife Rider) debuted on the tv tapings on April 10. If you somehow don’t know, it’s Dusty. Anyway, he came in on a horse with Magnum T.A. leading the horse, then came out later and choked Tully Blanchard with a lasso.
  • The April 30 Saturday Night’s Main Event will be taped on April 22. They’re taping an episode of Wrestling Challenge too, so expect a 5 hour card if you’re there live. And bring a pillow, because this sounds dreadful: Savage vs. Gang for the title, Honkytonk vs. Beefer for the title, Bulldogs vs. Demolition non-title, DiBiase vs. Muraco, and Andre vs. Jake the Snake.
  • Big John Studd was set to return to WWF, but has pushed his planned return back to the fall. Push that back until December. It’ll be Studd’s final run in the company and it’s only going to last until June next year, but at least he’ll have a Royal Rumble win out of it. After that he’ll do occasional independent dates and retire in 1990 after discovering he has Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
NEXT WEEK: Big shows being built, New Japan coming to American tv?, more in-depth poll results analysis, and more

2020.09.24 10:44 PostsWithoutThinking Well, I had a beer.

I had a beer. Actually, I had 2 beers and a shot of tequila. This was about 3 weeks ago. It wasn't a moment of weakness. I knew exactly what I was doing. I have gone 4 and a half years without a single drop of booze. I have bartended in New York City sober, gone to Las Vegas, gone to New Orleans with 18 people for a bachelor party, moved to the other side of the world, gone on countless dates, and have never been tempted to drink.
I went out to meet a girl for a date and for the first time hadn't mentioned that I don't drink prior to the meetup. I don't know. I'm kind of just sick of having to mention it. I don't consider it to be a defining characteristic of myself. I'm sick of this monkey on my back I have to introduce to everyone. So I get to the place and of course it's a bar. A bar that looks like a place you go to get drunk. So I tell her I don't really drink. I eventually make the decision to order a Corona so she doesn't feel weird (Ok she was really beautiful :) ). What the hell, I'll take a few sips. I'm enjoying the conversation and I have enough confidence in myself that I'm not going to slip into getting shitfaced. I feel a pretty good buzz after 1/4 of the beer. She wants another drink eventually and a shot and I initially decline. But I see she is kind of uneasy about me not drinking so what the hell I tell her to order the shots and I'll just sip.
Eventually we leave and go to another spot and I have one more beer. I was having a good time really. We go back to her place. The next day, I honestly didn't regret it. I didn't feel very good from drinking even that little bit after having abstained for years.
I don't feel like I fucked up. I really don't even care. I actually felt kind of relieved that I don't have to hold on to this 'streak' that I put up on a pedestal and thought was the only thing keeping me from drinking again. It's been 3 weeks and I haven't drank again. I haven't even thought about drinking. Did I fail? Nah. Early on in my sobriety I might have counted this as a failure but am I supposed to live in fear for the rest of my life? If anything I've learned that the streak isn't what is keeping me sober and that I've actually changed my life. I wanted to hold myself accountable and tell my brothers who have also stopped drinking, but I think I was somewhat of an inspiration to them and if I tell them then they might also be tempted to break the streak.
Obviously I don't recommend going out and having a drink. And maybe it's not even a good idea to share this story because people might think they can do the same. But I just wanted to hold myself accountable to someone. And sometimes I see people post about having a drink and having to start from scratch.

Expect weekend lag report.
Our positives have slowed down, our recovery rate continues to rise (85+% range), but our hospitalizations are increasing.
Source.

2020.09.23 17:55 brennen_p1 My Thoughts on the finalists performances + My thoughts on this season as a whole

Ok so we made it! Last night’s finale night wasn’t the best finale we’ve seen......a lot of acts faltered, but then again a lot of acts proved themselves tonight. I’ll give you my thoughts on each individual performances, plus my thoughts on the acts as a whole this season along with if I thought they deserved their finale spot compared to other finalists from past years. After that I’ll give you my thoughts from this season as a whole! So let’s do this:
  1. Roberta Battaglia - Ok so there’s no denying Roberta CAN sing. She does have an incredible voice, and she proved that in the auditions. But, for some reason I’ve been feeling let down by her quarterfinals, semi finals, and now finale performance. I feel like her rendition of Shallow was her best, and then she picked the obvious, karaoke song choices. No hate against her at all, I just feel like tonight she was flat on some parts, and obviously was very nervous. It also felt very stale, everything seemed blatantly choreographed. Obviously I know everything is choreographed, but you should try to hide it. Every single step she took, every single note she hit seemed like it was over rehearsed. It didn’t feel fluid, it didn’t have emotion. I felt the same way from her remediation of “What About Us.” Her quarterfinals performance was good, but again I just didn’t feel the emotion.
Best Performance: Auditions
Deserved Finale Spot: No
Standing Ovation: No
  1. BAD Salsa- Man I love them! Every single time they perform I am shocked by how fast they move, some of those stunts seem INSANE. Seeing them perform live in front of the judges was really cool, I feel like they are V.Unbeatable compacted into two people. That being said, tonight they didn’t have their best performance. In their audition, quarterfinals, and semi finals everything seemed so fluid, it was like they were spinning at lightning speed, and tonight I did notice some mistakes. It felt a little choppy to me unfortunately. That being said, they probably are the most talented people in this finale. I find myself enjoying them every single time they hit the stage, and I’m so glad they made it this far. Winner worthy? I think so. If you look at all 4 of their performances, they have constantly upped their game and proved why they deserved to be here. I wish tonight they showed some stunts we have never seen before, as most of them we have seen done, or done better. But for what they do, they are incredible.
Best Performance: Quarterfinals
Deserved Finale Spot: Yes
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Kenadi Dodds- Ok so I don’t really know if this is a controversial opinion, but she had an amazing night tonight. On a night where I really wanted to see people step up out of their comfort zones, I think Kenadi did that the best. I was feeling very let down by her audition, quarterfinals, AND semi finals performance. Her original in QF might’ve been my least favorite performance from the live shows. She didn’t step into her confidence yet, and yeah she has a good voice, but just having a good voice doesn’t warrant a finale spot. Covering Carrie Underwoods is a very, VERY hard task, and I don’t know if she rose to that occasion, but from what we’ve seen before, I think she gave her best tonight. I do agree with Howie on this one, when she’s really belting it out, that’s where she hits home. She did the absolute most she could’ve to make the top 5. Obviously I don’t think she will win, but from the notes she hit to the confidence she had tonight, she did a very good job.
Best Performance: Finals
Deserved Finale Spot: No
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Brandon Leake- Ok so I KNOW this is a very controversial opinion, but if I’m being completely honest, Brandon is my favorite act not only from this season, but one of the best I have ever seen. People have been saying they don’t think poetry is a talent, but I disagree 1000%. He moves people from his words, he tells his story, he’s not afraid to comment on huge issues. From revealing deeply personal stories about his father and sister, to talking about the injustices he faces as a black American, to talking about now the future he invisions for his child, he has constantly gave top tier performances all season. Every single time I watch him I feel compelled to give him a standing ovation, he is.......I can’t even describe the emotions I feel watching him. I know A TON of people are going to disagree with me but this is his season to win. He is called to move, and that’s what he has done. If he doesn’t win, I will be very disappointed, but I understand. I feel like you can’t compare him to singer or dancers or magicians because he is in a completely different category. He is far and beyond the best spoken word artist I’ve ever seen. All of the praise beside, I do feel like tonight was his weakest performance of all 4 he has done. He didn’t have as much to work with, and I feel as thought it might’ve been rushed to put together. I feel like his semi finals was his most powerful, and to me, that’s my favorite performance not only of the season, but probably of all of the seasons I’ve watched (I started watching in S11 religiously and have continued since then). He is my pick to win tonight.
Best Performance: Semi-Finals
Deserved Finale Spot: Yes
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Broken Roots- I know a lot of people hate them. I KNOW THAT. I am kinda one of them. I don’t hate them, but I feel as though they haven’t lived up to the other singers hype. They will obviously be in the top 5 cuz country does incredibly well on this show. In the Air Tonight was an.........interesting song choice to say the least. I feel like tonight, as I do with a lot of other acts, was their weakest performance of the season. Country is where they excel, and since they moved out of that lane, who knows where they’re going to end up. I don’t have a lot to say about them except they have been such a wildcard this season. I don’t think there’s ever been an act eliminated in judge cuts that was brought back so last minute and has done so well in America’s votes. Looking back on their auditions, quarterfinals, and semi-finals, I would say yes, they deserve to be in the finale. But tonight, I’m not so sure. I LOVED their backdrop, but it just felt very campy to me. The performance didn’t go anywhere besides the belting they did (which ended up sounding very screamy and uncontrolled). Look, they’ve done good in the competition, but good isn’t good enough to be in the finale of the biggest talent competition in the world. AGAIN, no hate to any of these acts, I just think there were better singers to fill this spot then Broken Roots.
Best Performance: Semi-Finals
Deserved Finale Spot: No
Standing Ovation: No
  1. Bello Sisters- I feel the same way about Bello Sisters as I do about Broken Roots. They’re just okay, even though this act requires so much strength. This was, again as I keep saying, their weakest performance to date. In the auditions, I actually predicted them to be in the finale (I know, CRAZY!!!). They were incredibly unique, there strength was INSANE, and I was so excited to see what they would do next. Their quarterfinals didn’t disappoint, they brought danger, the music, the lighting, all of it was insane. I also have the same feeling about their semi-finals, though it didn’t live up to their other performances. Then we saw their finale performance. The 70s/80s theme was........nice? The danger aspect with the crossbow was really stupid because there really wasn’t any danger. I felt very confused most of the time, the tricks felt disjointed, and it just didn’t flow as nicely as the other performances. I am really disappointed because I was one of the people rooting for them, and tonight they kinda let me down. I don’t think these three could sustain a whole Vegas show, and since they were in the Dunkin save in the QF, sadly they have no chance of winning. But hey, maybe they’ll come back for champions and surprise us all just like Duo Transcend did. But........it’s unlikely.
Best Performance: Quarterfinals
Deserved Finale Spot: No
Standing Ovation: No
  1. Archie Williams- ! HOT TAKE INCOMING ! Archie actually stepped up to the plate tonight. Yes, his audition was great. Yes, I predicted him into the finals. No, he isn’t the BEST singer. I think most of that had to do with song choices, he picked very obscure songs that nobody could really connect to. Tonight he picked one of my favorite songs, “Blackbird.” I think he did the absolute most he could’ve done tonight. I agree with Howie, every single time he performs he brings on a whole new meaning to a song. This felt so emotional, so profound, so intense, it honestly took my breath away. He was very pitchy into the longer held notes, but for some reason that didn’t take anything away from his performance. He stuck to his roots and did an incredibly emotional song that I feel resonated with a lot of America tonight. No, I don’t think he’ll win the whole thing, but you really can’t take away from his story. 30+ years??!?!?!? Nobody can even IMAGINE what that is like. It’s truly one of the craziest stories I have ever heard in my time watching AGT. So yes, I thoroughly enjoyed his performance tonight, even if a lot of you didn’t. Great job tonight Archie, you really did it.
Best Performance: Finals
Deserved Finale Spot: Yes
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Daneliya Tuleshova- Lemme be COMPLETLEY honest for a minute. I didn’t get the hype. Her audition was okay? Her quarterfinals was great, but pitchy and she fell flat on some of the runs. Her semi-finals was great, but again bad song choice and she did fall flat on some parts. But tonight.......she blew me away. A lot of people have been telling me they didn’t like the song choice, but I feel like she picked the best song. He wasn’t flat once, some of the notes she hit were incredible, she was very seasoned, and to me was one of the best performances of the night. Not to mention the backdrop is probably my favorite out of the whole live shows. Before tonight, I predicted she would be near the bottom, but I think she’s deserving of the top 3. I get the hype now, I do!!!! Again, I saw her on worlds best and I think she was better there, but her voice obviously has gotten deeper and with that brought challenges. She regained her confidence tonight, and I’m glad she did because watching last night, I felt like she saved the whole finale. She brought us out of a drought of a couple of bad acts and SOARED. I’m actually so glad she did because I had high expectations for her tonight, and she exceeded them!! She isn’t my pick to win tonight, but if she did I wouldn’t be upset.
Best Performance: Finale
Deserved Finale Spot: Yes
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Alan Silva- Ok so I’ve had a love-hate relationship with him and this act. His audition was incredible, but the song choice was okay? His QF had a HORRIBLE song choice, and he just did more of the same I felt like. His semifinals had a better song choice, but he was on a night where production felt the need to add fire to every single act, so that’s where I stood with that. Tonight.....wow he was incredible. I felt like he gave a finale worthy performance, one of the only ones that I felt gave such a performance. I actually felt like I was in Las Vegas watching this incredibly artistic act. I’ve been waiting for him to do something where it isn’t just danger danger danger, I wanted him to add more art to it. And tonight he finally did that AS WELL as having danger with it. He is one of the 3 I believe stepped up tonight and did what I was hoping for. The finale of his act was actually my favorite moment of tonight. This is where I feel like I’m kinda glad that they moved to universal because it just looks so stunning outside. Would his act be moved inside for Las Vegas, or would they be able to hold it outside if he ended up winning? Who knows lol. Also, did the judges watch his act outside or where they not there? I assume they weren’t cuz we didn’t see them, but then again, who knows.
Best Performance: Finale
Deserved Finale Spot: Yes
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Cristina Rae- Here we are. The last performance of the season! First off I have to say, thank you Heidi for picking an amazing golden buzzer. I think we can all agree she is Heidi’s best GB of all time. Now, let’s get to the performance. This was a VERY unexpected song choice. But, I feel like it strangely worked. She showcased her belty notes which I feel like we missed, and of course her falsetto which SHE SLAYS. I think she is the most talented singer I have EVER SEEN on this show, she’s up there with the likes of Brian Justin Crum and Glennis Grace. I think she may very well be going home with that one million dollar prize and a headlining show in Vegas. That being said, I feel like the song choice was a wasted opportunity.....::I had hope she would sing creep at some point in the competition. I feel like that would’ve solidified her win even more. Her semi finals and finals song choices were good, and she did exactly, and more, of what I was expecting, just not the best song choices. That being said, she had the best performance tonight by a mile. I’m so glad she closed off because it was a SLAYYAGE of a performance. Winning worthy? I think so, we’ll just have to see. Looking back, she has constantly delivered every single time.
Best Performance: Quarterfinals
Deserved Finale Spot: Yes
Standing Ovation: Yes
And there we go! This season as a whole was probably the craziest I have watched. I feel like this season's GB's were the best I have ever seen (with the exception of Roberta). We saw the most changes with auditions having no audience, no Heidi (for the most part), and guest judge Eric Stonestreet, to Judge Cuts being outside, to live shows with no audience and no Simon, to having Kelly Clarkson and Kenan Thompson, it was interesting to say the least. I feel like this season also has some of the most unique acts we’ve ever seen, with the likes of Sheldon Riley, divas and drummers of Compton, Bello & Annalise, and Jonathan Goodwin. I also feel like there was a SHIT TON of comedians this season, yet most of them were cut in judge cuts, and then again none of them made the semi finals. As a whole, this season did the best it could’ve done with the circumstances, but it failed in many ways. For one, most of my favorite acts were cut in the QF, meaning we only saw at most 2 performances from them. This also had a lot of unexpected eliminations, from the likes of Sheldon, Brett, and Malik, all acts I feel were good enough to make the finale. That being said, I enjoyed the audition portions the most out of any of the seasons I’ve watched prior. It was very diverse, and gave me some new favorite performances. Now, here are my standings for the seasons as a whole:

2020.09.23 17:43 jango-b A Completionist Guide to Yes Live: Part Four, Rite of Spring through The Royal Affair

The final entry in my collection of Yes live, a list of most songs from every tour, and the best quality recordings I could find of each. See part three here.
Yes toured a ton in this decade (over 450 shows plus ARW), some setlists are repetitive, and most tours that were not officially released are audience recordings.
YES TOURS PART FOUR: 2011 - 2019
RITE OF SPRING (2011) David, Squire, Howe, Downes, White
This tour was short (19 shows) and I could not find a single soundboard. I got the best audience recordings, but none are great.
Close to the Edge, I’ve Seen All Good People, Long Distance Runaround, Whitefish/On the Silent Wings of Freedom, Machine Messiah, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Parallels, Roundabout, Starship Trooper, Tempus Fugit, Yours is No Disgrace, and Steve solos of Soon, To Be Over, and Ritual; Zeiterion Performing Arts Center (March 29, 2011, New Bedford MA).
Steve plays a solo version of Turn of the Century at; The Fillmore Charlotte (March 25, 2011, Charlotte, NC).
FLY FROM HERE (11-12) David/Davison, Squire, Howe, Downes, White
This tour was NOT short, but still no soundboard recordings, just audience recordings of lesser quality.
With Benoit David: Tempus Fugit, Yours is No Disgrace, I’ve Seen All Good People, Fly From Here Part 1, And You And I, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Roundabout, Starship Trooper; One For The Ages (July 8, 2011, Mashantucket CT).
With Benoit David: Life On a Film Set, Solitaire, Fly From Here (complete), Wonderous Stories, Into the Storm, Heart of the Sunrise; Teatro Smeraldo (November 24, 2011, Milano Italy).
In that last show, you can already hear Benoit David’s voice starting to suffer. There are recordings of the shows after this which are worse. Yes replaced him with Jon Davison and continued this tour in April 2012.
With Jon Davison: Yours is No Disgrace, Tempus Fugit, I’ve Seen All Good People, America, Sketches in the Sun, Clap, Fly From Here, Wonderous Stories, Into the Storm, Heart of the Sunrise, Awaken, Roundabout; NYCB Theater at Westbury (July 14, 2012, Westbury CT).
THREE ALBUM TOUR (13-14) Davison, Squire, Howe, Downes, White
Every song on this tour was released officially:
All of Going For the One and The Yes Album are on Like It Is: Yes at the Bristol Hippodrome (May 11, 2014, Bristol UK).
Fragile and Close to the Edge, plus Owner of a Lonely Heart; Like It Is: Yes at the Mesa Arts Center (August 12, 2014, Mesa AZ).
HEAVEN & EARTH (2014) Davison, Squire, Howe, Downes, White
The H&E tour started immediately after the Three Album tour and the setlists were very similar. They just added a few songs from the new album.
No official release, but an official webcast:
All of Fragile and Close to the Edge, plus Believe Again, The Game, I’ve Seen all Good People, Owner of a Lonely Heart; Yahoo! Live Webcast (August 19, 2014, San Jose CA).
An audience recording of To Ascend; The Egg (July 6, 2014, Albany NY).
Chris’ last tour. Rest in peace, Fish.
TOUR WITH TOTO (2015) Davison, Sherwood, Howe, Downes, White
America, Don’t Kill the Whale, Going For The One, Starship Trooper, Tempus Fugit, Time And a Word, I’ve Seen All Good People, Siberian Khatru, Owner of a Lonely Heart and Roundabout*; Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre (August 31, 2015, Salt Lake City UT).*
Believe Again, White Car, Nine Voices, Clap, Soon; Cruise to the Edge – Norwegian Pearl (November 16, 2015).
THE ALBUM SERIES: FRAGILE & DRAMA (2016) Davison, Sherwood, Howe, Downes, Schellen
No official release. This tour only had 25 dates, and no soundboard recordings exist.
The best audience recording is Ancienne Belgique (May 14, 2016, Brussels Belgium). Set list is all of Drama and Fragile plus Time And a Word, Siberian Khatru, Going For the One, Owner of a Lonely Heart, and Starship Trooper.
Don’t Kill the Whale; Gran Teatro Geox (May 29, 2016, Padova Italy).

I’ve Seen All Good People; Tokyo 4th Night (November 29, 2016, Tokyo Japan).

YES FEATURING ARW (16-18) Anderson, Pomeroy, Rabin, Wakeman, Molino
They played over a hundred shows over three years, although the set list did not vary dramatically. And Trevor knocked a few of Rick’s teeth out. Accidentally.
Official release: And You And I, Awaken, Changes, Cinema, Heart of the Sunrise, Hold On, I’ve Seen All Good People, Lift Me Up, Long Distance Runaround, The Fish, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Perpetual Change, Rhythm of Love, Roundabout; Yes Featuring ARW - Live at the Apollo (March 25, 2017, Manchester UK).
I Am Waiting, Leaves of Green, South Side of the Sky; ARW Port Chester (September 21, 2017, Port Chester NY)
The Meeting; ARW Hard Rock Live (October 14, 2016, Orlando FL).
YESTIVAL (2017) Davison, Sherwood, Howe, Downes, White, Dylan Howe
This tour only had 23 dates before it was cancelled due to the tragic death of Virgil Howe. Only one show has a half-decent recording.

2020.09.23 06:21 mschubert1996 Can in fly within the US with an outstanding warrant?

So I originally got charged in 2018, fast forward to now and I’m about finished with my 2 years of probation and then covid swooped in and ruined everything. The last thing I had to complete in order to get off of probation (my date to get off was 5/3/2020) was take a class. Well this class ended up getting postponed due to covid. The rescheduled date is 12/18/20. My probation officer called me a few months ago to let me know there is a warrant out for my arrest in Florida for probation violation, because I never took that dumb class.. I called my problem officer 2 weeks ago to check in and I’m not even on papers anymore! She said I’m all good.. I’ll just have that warrant until I take the class. Fast forward to now and I’m supposed to go to Las Vegas for my best friends 21st birthday.. will I be able to fly or will I get arrested? Also: Florida is a state that does extradite

Expect weekend lag report.
Our positives have slowed down, our recovery rate continues to rise (85+% range), but our hospitalizations are increasing.
Source.

2020.09.22 09:55 tarvispickles Everything he's always wanted, then dumped

I was seeing this guy the past two months. Honestly I have never met anyone I've had such amazing communication with and that gets me and that we can talk about literally anything all day everyday. We were the closest I've ever been with somebody that I was just dating. He's told me multiple, multiple times that I am everything he has ever been looking for and he's scared because he doesn't quite know what that means or how to have a healthy relationship because his past ones were him chasing toxic people. I've always taken that to mean he had feelings for me but maybe just did not know how to handle them.
About 2.5 weeks ago we were talking in the car because he was mad his number wasn't saved in my phone and that meant that I wasn't into him. I explained that it was superstitious because I put someone I like into my phone something happens and completely by accident and I was telling him about past example of that and it came out that eventually I expect to date exclusively (where we get rid of back burner options and focus on getting to know each other before getting into a relationship. He said just so you know if you asked me to be your boyfriend right now, I'd say no. I was like okay I wasn't asking.
Then I left for vacation and remembered on the first date he said he knows within a month if he wants to be with a person. So I just asked him out of curiosity if he had reservations since it'd been over a month that we've been dating. He said of course he did and he wasn't ready 'to give himself fully to me' etc. I was on vacation and wasn't clear on what that meant and wanted to get vacation laid so I asked if that meant we were dating/sleeping with other people?
He took that as me asking him and called me and said yes I wanna be exclusive but not in a relationship just yet. I was happy with that tbh and I didn't have vacation sex. Fast forward a week to last Monday and I'm home hanging out with him and said I hope he didn't feel pressured into that because that's not how I meant it but I'm happy that we're focusing on each other right now. Fast forward the last Friday and he's leaving on a weekend trip to go home to Las Vegas for a visit and he calls me on his way and we talked for three and a half hours about how he wasn't ready for that and he wants to go back to not being exclusive.
He doesn't have anyone and he's not seeing anyone else but he keeps having the thought that he's attracted to different people and doesn't like that he feels like he can't explore that. So ultimately he wanted us to continue dating but openly talk about if we want to go on a date with someone else or if we want to sleep with someone else if it comes up to take the pressure of commitment off.
When the conversation ended I was happy and so was he that we were going to continue to explore things. But it was a complete 180 literally on his way out of town so I had questions on how that would work and what that necessarily meant about our feelings for each other because I've started developing feelings for him and honestly I don't want to know about him going on dates with other people. He said he has feelings for me but honestly he really wouldn't care if I went out with someone else. Really I was just trying to figure out why the 180 and figure out what these new boundaries are. He told me he had no problem answering questions and everything seemed fine. I asked him if we would be back on dating apps and stuff and he said that that's a decision I would have to make for myself.
So ultimately I said I think the best thing would be for me to go back to dating as usual and keeping it casual with him because I felt like he was feeling pressured into some sort of relationship and trying to figure out his feelings for me which is normal. I did say that it made me question his feelings for me if it doesn't bother him if I see other people but I dropped it there.
He said he was dealing with a lot of stuff and didn't really have time for me right now so I said okay well let me know when you have time for me. We were planning this big long weekend together this weekend to get to know each other and get closer so I told him take some time we have this weekend planned and booked and hit me up when you're ready to talk.
Then essentially he completely flipped a switch and said he felt like he had to carry me all weekend even though I told him at the beginning of the weekend I don't want to overanalyze or ask too many questions and he told me he didn't mind at all because he understands that he did a 180.
When I called up he said honestly he didn't want to talk to me right now and he would call me today and now I find out today he is no longer interested in seeing me or getting to know me at all and he'd call me to talk when he's done after work for closure.
He's been so back and forth about his feelings for me and I feel like I've been so accommodating and trying to be understanding but it's just been so emotionally exhausting so I told him there's no point in having a conversation and at this point I'm beyond needing closure because he's been so I want you, I want you not, I want you, you're everything I've ever wanted and wished for, I don't know if the feelings are there for you, I have feelings for you, I'm interested in getting to know you but I don't have feelings for you. It's run the whole spectrum and he's all over the place so I told him I'm at a place where I don't need closure and that It's not my issue. I told him I worked hard to develop my relationship skills and the ability to sort out my feelings for people and he knows that there's something between us and he knows the decision he's making and I see no point in talking about whatever reason he's come up with this time to run away. And that's the last I've heard from him. He never even bothered trying to call me after work.
All he's told me is how perfect I am for him and that scary to him but then multiple times he's quick to run away and I've just gotten so tired of trying to adapt emotionally to where he's at and then he changes the game and the rules constantly. Did I do something wrong here or does it sound like he doesn't know how to handle relationships and feelings and got scared?

Everything You Need to Know About NFR

Beyond the payouts for the Cowboys, the PRCA estimates that the event brings in about $90 million annually to the Las Vegas economy. Furthermore, recent attendance stats have shown that 177,565 rodeo enthusiasts decked out in Wrangler jeans, Justin boots and cowboy hats attended events at the Thomas & Mack with an additional 40,000 fans who watched at the 40 hotels who hosted watch parties. It is during this rare time of the year that many marquees on the Strip have the face of bull riders replace DJs’ faces.

Main Performance

Seven main events have historically taken place at the NFR. Each event has its own monetary prizes that are paid out, and those payouts are determined by each top-placing competitor’s rank in relation to the event’s overall prize pool. Individuals placed in the top-six of a particular event are paid out accordingly, while individuals placed in the top-eight of the overall NFR are also paid out. The NFR’s main events are as follows:
  • Bareback Riding
  • This consists of a horseback cowboy using a bareback rigging as the primary means of staying on top of the horse. This grip has often been compared to the equivalent of hanging on to a suitcase handle and makes for the only support that a cowboy has on top of the wildly bucking horse. An 8-second ride constitutes a qualified ride and the cowboys is judged on riding technique.
  • Steer Wrestling
  • This act involves a horseback steer wrestler, alternatively known as a “bulldogger”, bringing a fast-moving steer to a halt on its back as fast as possible. The bulldogger utilizes a combination of strength, technique, speed, and precision to jump off of their horse from a designated starting point and onto a steer sprinting off from the same starting point.
  • Team Roping
  • Headers
  • One of two horseback team members whose job is to successfully rope the head of the steer in one of three tries as fast as possible; around both horns, around one horn and the head, or around the neck.
  • Heelers
  • One of two horseback team members whose job is to successfully rope the hind legs of the steer as soon as the header has successfully done their part. To avoid a 5-second penalty for roping only one hind leg, the heeler must rope both hind legs.
  • Saddle Bron Riding
  • Similar to Bareback Riding, the goal of the horseback cowboy is to maintain their balance as much as possible for 8 seconds while the horse is bucking. In this event, however, the cowboy sits on a saddle while using one hand to hold on to a thick rein that’s attached to the horse’s halter.
  • Tie-Down Roping
  • This event centers around a cowboy on horseback attempting to restrain a calf by throwing a well-timed rope loop that’s attached to the cowboy’s horse. The cowboy and the calf both leave from a designated starting point, with the calf getting a slight head-start. The cowboy depends on the horse to mitigate any slack in the rope after dismounting, then proceeds to tie-up the calf as fast as possible.
  • Barrel Racing
  • This is a women’s event where horseback cowgirls race against the clock to complete a strategically set course where barrels are set up as landmarks. The intent is for the cowgirls to complete a cloverleaf-shaped run around 3 barrels placed in a triangular formation as fast as possible. Barrels that are accidentally knocked over result in 5-second penalties.
  • Bull Riding
  • The cowboy on top of the bull has the main objective of staying on top and maintaining their balance for 8 seconds. They are judged based on technique and can earn extra points by spurring while the bull is bucking. The cowboy stays on top of the bull by grasping a flat braided rope, which also wraps around the bull’s chest.
  • All-Around Champion
  • Being crowned the All-Around Champion speaks volumes about the versatility and high level of talent exhibited by the winning cowboy. In order to receive this honor, the cowboy must have won the most prize money in a given year and competed in at least 2 NFR events while earning at least $3,000 in each of those events. This is widely known as the highest honor bestowed by the PRCA.

Super Bowl of Rodeo

The NFR has consistently been referred to with this phrase because of the sheer massiveness of its popularity and money-generating power within the context of rodeo. The event is considered to be so big and consistently sold-out that the UNLV basketball team that normally uses the NFR’s venue during the season has to annually build its schedule in a way that keeps the team on the road for the duration of the NFR festivities.

Miss Rodeo America

This event is a pageant that takes place in conjunction with the NFR as part of the NFR’s overall festivities. State rodeo queen winners from across the United States compete for the Miss Rodeo America crown and put themselves in line to potentially win $20,000, among other smaller prizes. In addition to the prizes, the winner is expected to travel to various rodeos throughout the United States and to promote the rodeo during the subsequent year.

Wrangler NFR Preshow

The former Miss Rodeo America titleholder is no stranger to the excitement of the “Super Bowl” of Western competition, with six years of WNFR reporting under her belt. She is most excited about bringing the pre-show to the fans. Be prepared for this Wrangler NFR Preshow, don’t miss a single moment of the Pro Rodeo live action.

Cowboy Christmas

For those that need a break from the constant adrenaline that comes with the NFR’s main events, the Cowboy Christmas experience allows for a welcomed change of pace. This portion of NFR centers around cowboy shopping and serves as a marketplace for hundreds of exhibitors from the United States and Canada to sell to thousands of eager buyers. Typically taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Cowboy Christmas will also move to Arlington, TX in 2020. All exhibitors will have the opportunity to Opt-In/Opt-Out for 2020.

Standings

The 2019 PRCA season has been extremely competitive as a lot of the top cowboys are gunning for glory. Tuf Cooper sits atop of the all-around standings and many experts believe that he is going to win his second all-around title in a row. There will be a lot of close competitions and many of the world championships could come down to the last day. You can check the current standings here.

NFR Prize Money

The total payout for the entire event is $10 million and will remain at that amount until 2020. After that, the amount will be adjusted and remain in place for the subsequent five years. All 120 qualifying contestants receive $10,000 as part of participating. This year’s detailed payout structure can be found on the PRCA’s 2019 Wrangler NFR Payoff page.

Final Words

All in all, the National Finals Rodeo is a landmark event and a de facto defining period of time within any given rodeo year. 2020.09.22 03:49 DopewiththeMost My (27 F) boyfriend (32 M) never shows interest or wants to do something I want to do but we always go do something or go somewhere he likes.

We’ve been dating for a little over a year now but for the time I’ve known him, it’s hard to get him to give two shits about something I want to do for fun, yet we’re constantly doing things he likes. I’ve had this conversation with him many times but I’m really getting fed up. He loves movies so we’ve gone to the movies a lot, just this month we’ve gone to a drive-in theater twice for movies he wanted to see. We go to LA, I’ve taken him to 3 pop up shops for something he likes that I know nothing about, just I still happily went with him. We’ve gone to a number of wrestling shows, comic shops, even when we took a trip to Vegas last year all he wanted to do was just walk around and look at locations, tell me stories about where he’s gone when he was a kid. I wanted to go dancing but he wouldn’t budge until I got upset and he reluctantly went with me. Even then once we were inside I wasn’t having fun. He didn’t want to dance, didn’t even try to have fun with me. I stood there with him as we just listened to the DJ until I had enough after 30 min and we left.
I don’t ask for much. I really done. I just want him to put the same effort into our relationship as I do for him constantly. I’ve tried to get him to go to the beach with me, hiking, bonfires. Hell, with bonfires he only agrees when he has cardboard to burn or something. We’ve gone to a museum I was interested in LA once, but even then he was all moody because he wanted to keep something in the back seat of my car when I told him I wanted it in the trunk because I didn’t want someone to see it was sitting in my car and then break my windows to get it. I eventually got him to put it in the trunk but he was not ok with it. It just ruined to experience and I didn’t get to have fun with him the way I wanted to. It was a museum where I had a lot of knowledge in the subject matter, and I wanted to go through with him and talk to him about it, just like he does with me when we see a movie or something. He’s constantly telling me about all the things he knows with these films and directors and stuff but I can’t get much in with my own expertise on something I enjoy.
Whenever I ask for him to go somewhere or do something with me that I like he always responds with “uhhh maybe” or “mmmm I don’t know” or “eh I guess.” Or something in between. Tonight, I asked if we could go have a bonfire. Just a normal bonfire without burning stuff that he has. With a bit of music, s’mores, and just chilling out. His response? “Uhhh... maybe.” Of course. I asked him about it yesterday and was met with the same answer. I can’t get a yes from him even once, while I’m here like a complete moron doing anything I can to always make him happy. He says it’s just the way he talks, that he didn’t say no, and that I’m just projecting. But I beg to differ. It’s funny too because all week he’s been saying “we should try to do something before you leave.” (I need to go out of town this weekend) and a while before that he’s told me “think of something you want to do.” He knows I don’t have a lot of time to do things in the evening during the week, and he knows I only have the chance when my mom is away (otherwise she needs me to help her with things). Tonight was the only night I had free. I told him something I wanted to do, and I asked during a time where I had the freedom to do it. But what am I met with? “Umm.. maybe.” When I got upset, he also told me “well I don’t know when you’re mom will be back in town” even though I told him an hour beforehand. He also said I was “getting upset over something trivial.” Trivial? So me asking him to do something that I like, so we can spend time together, is trivial?
I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for him to give two shits about what I want. Is this just narcissistic behavior?
